What a trip to Naxos costs

Real numbers, honestly ranged, and the three or four decisions that move them more than any coupon ever will.

Last reviewed August 2026

The short version

Budget day
Around €55 to €90 per person: a room, taverna food, the bus, one swim.
Midrange day
Around €120 to €190 per person: a nice hotel, a hire car, dinner out.
Comfortable day
€250 and up per person: a villa or boutique base, restaurants, sunbeds and boat trips.
A couple, one week
Roughly €1,400 to €2,200 midrange, on the island, before the ferry or flights to Greece.
The big levers
When you come, whether you hire a car, and how early you book. Not the daily small stuff.

Naxos is one of the best value islands in the Cyclades, and the reason is structural. It is a real farming island that grows most of what it puts on the plate, so a taverna dinner costs noticeably less than the same meal on Mykonos or Santorini, where nearly everything arrives by boat. You feel the difference most at the table, which is the nicest place to feel it.

Every figure on this page is a July 2026 snapshot in euros, meant for planning rather than the cent. Prices move with the season and the year. Treat these as the shape of a Naxos budget, not a quote.

Per person, per day

A day, three ways

The honest way to picture a Naxos budget is one day, lived three different ways. Pick the column that sounds like you.

One day per person, July 2026
BudgetMidrangeComfortable
Bed€25 to €40€55 to €90€140+
Food and drink€20 to €30€40 to €60€80+
Getting around€5 to €10 (bus)€20 to €35 (car share)€40+ (car, taxis)
A little fun€5 to €10€15 to €30€40+ (sunbeds, boat)
A day€55 to €90€130 to €190€250+

The gap between budget and midrange is mostly the bed and the car. The gap between midrange and comfortable is mostly sunbeds, boat trips and eating at the higher-end places. None of it is Naxos being expensive; it is you choosing how to spend.

The big upfront cost

Getting here

This is the cost people forget when they picture a cheap island holiday, and it is usually the single biggest line after the room.

  • Ferry from Athens: roughly €22 to €88 one way as a foot passenger, by port, boat and seat class. A car across averages around €65.
  • Flight from Athens: from about €45 one way, but it swings widely with demand and the small aircraft sell out. Forty-five minutes against three to six hours.
  • Getting to the Athens port: metro to Piraeus is €9, the airport bus a couple of euros more; a taxi is €50 to €60. From the airport to Rafina, a bus is a few euros, a taxi €30 to €40.

Fares swing a lot by date, port and boat, so the honest way to budget is to check your own dates:

Search ferries to Naxos

We book ferries through ferryscanner.com, which compares every operator on one screen. On this route the price gap between a slow overnight-style crossing and a peak high-speed seat is large, so it pays to look before you book.

Sleeping

A double room per night, high season
LevelPer nightWhat that is
Budget€40 to €70Rooms and studios, family-run, often a short walk from the beach.
Midrange€90 to €160A proper hotel with a pool, or a smart studio in Chora.
Top end€200+Boutique hotels and private villas, most with a view and a pool.

Two things move these more than the star rating: the month, with August easily double May, and how early you book, since the best-value places at every level go first. Where you stay also quietly sets your transport bill: a base in Chora needs no car, while a villa in the hills more or less requires one.

Where to stay, by area
The good news

Eating and drinking

This is where Naxos quietly wins. The island feeds itself, so eating well is cheaper here than almost anywhere else in the Cyclades.

Typical prices, July 2026
WhatCost
Gyros or souvlaki€3.50 to €4.50
Coffee (freddo espresso)€3 to €4
Beer or a glass of wine€4 to €5
Taverna meal, per person€15 to €25
Good restaurant, per person€20 to €30

How Greeks keep the bill down, and eat better doing it: order a pikilia, a mixed platter, and a few shared plates for the table rather than a main each. It is cheaper, and it is the whole point of a Greek meal.

Getting around

Per day unless noted, July 2026
OptionCostWorth it if
Bus€1.80 to €6.20 a tripYou are staying in or near Chora and not in a hurry.
Small car€40 to €60You want the villages, the far beaches, the interior.
Scooter€20 to €40Two people, short hops, confident riders.
ATV / quad€40 to €70Rarely the rational choice, often the fun one.

A car for even two or three days is the thing that turns Naxos from a beach into an island. But you do not need it for the whole stay: many people take the bus most days and hire a car for the two they explore. That split is the single easiest saving on this page.

Buses, cars and the rest
Added up

A week for two, added up

A midrange week for a couple, on the island, excluding the ferry or flights to Greece, lands somewhere around €1,400 to €2,200. Roughly:

Two people, seven nights, midrange, July 2026
LineThe week
Room, 7 nights at €120€840
Food and drink, two people€420 to €700
Car, 3 days of 7€150 to €200
Fun: a boat trip, sunbeds, sites€150 to €300
On the island€1,400 to €2,200

Add the ferry or flights to get to Greece, and the ferry from Athens on top. The point of laying it out this way is that the biggest numbers, the room and the getting here, are exactly the ones that reward booking early and choosing your month.

Naxos Private Transfers

The airport taxi you did not budget for.

The rank empties minutes after a ferry lands and there is no Uber on Naxos, so the fallback is a long wait or a scramble. A transfer is a fixed price you know before you travel, not a surprise at the end of a long day.

  • Fixed price, quoted before you book
  • Ferry and flight tracking, so a delay costs nothing
  • Online booking and payment, confirmed instantly
  • Child seats and extra luggage on request

The levers that matter

Where to actually save

Not by skipping the nice dinner. By pulling the few big levers:

  • Come in the shoulder. May, June, September and early October cost a fraction of August for a warmer sea and thinner crowds. This is the biggest saving there is.
  • Book the room early. The best-value places at every level go first. Late booking is the most expensive habit on the island.
  • Hire the car for two days, not seven. Bus the rest. Same island, half the transport bill.
  • Stay where you do not need a car at all. A base in Chora or a beach on the bus line removes the line entirely.
  • Eat like a Greek. Shared plates, village tavernas inland, the gyros lunch. Cheaper and better.
  • Take the slow ferry. The conventional ships cost less than the high-speed and the crossing is part of the holiday.
Questions

Asked often

Is Naxos expensive?

Less than most of the Cyclades. It grows most of its own food rather than importing it, so eating and drinking are noticeably cheaper than on Mykonos or Santorini. A budget day runs around 55 to 90 euros per person, a midrange day 130 to 190, as of July 2026.

How much does a week in Naxos cost?

For a couple travelling midrange, roughly 1,400 to 2,200 euros for seven nights on the island, covering the room, food, a few days of car hire and some activities. That excludes flights or the ferry to get to Greece, and the ferry from Athens on top.

How much money should I budget per day for Naxos?

Around 55 to 90 euros per person for a budget trip, 130 to 190 midrange, and 250 or more for a comfortable one, as of July 2026. The difference is mostly the bed and whether you hire a car, not the daily small spending.

How much is the ferry from Athens to Naxos?

Roughly 22 to 88 euros one way for a foot passenger, depending on the Athens port, whether the ship is high-speed or conventional, and the class of seat. Taking a car across averages around 65 euros.

Is Naxos cheaper than Mykonos or Santorini?

Noticeably, especially for food, drink and accommodation. Naxos is a working agricultural island rather than a luxury-branded one, so the same taverna meal or hotel night costs less. The ferry to reach it can also be cheaper, since it is a shorter or cheaper crossing than to Santorini.

What is the most expensive part of a Naxos trip?

Usually accommodation, followed by getting to the island. Both reward booking early and choosing a shoulder-season month. Day-to-day spending on food and local transport is modest by Cycladic standards.
