July Traditions Unfold Across Naxos

🎊 Religious Feasts & Local Celebrations

Throughout the month, islandside villages host festive panigiria honoring their patron saints. Visitors will encounter heartfelt processions, traditional music, dancing, local cuisine, and lively gatherings:

  • July 7 – Potamia: Feast of Agia Kyriaki with communal dancing and food in the village square

  • July 8 – Agios Prokopios: Patron saint’s day celebrations with church service, procession, music, dancing, and shared feasting 

  • July 14 – Chora & Glinado: Major Agios Nikodimos celebrations in the capital featuring icon procession and open-air festivities 

  • July 17 – Koronos & Aggidia: Feast of Agia Marina with folkloric music and village dance in Koronos 

  • July 25 – Agia Anna: Panigyri in the namesake village with live folk music, hearty food, and spirited dancing 

  • July 27 – Agersani: Feast of Agios Panteleimonas with evening music and traditional dancing 

🏛️ Cultural Events & Artistic Programs

  • Dionysia Festival (mid-to-late July): Held in Chora, the festival celebrates Naxos’s mythic connection to Dionysus, bringing together exhibitions, theatre, concerts, and wine-centered events in a joyful cultural collage 

  • Ancient Greek Summer Class (July 2–12): Academic immersion into classical Greek, combining lessons with cultural outings around Naxos
